Iain MacKelworth

Iain was born in London, England and studied at the London College of Fashion beginning in 1985. He met Steveston-native Miranda in London; they married in 1989 and immigrated to Canada in 1990.

Iain began working at Steveston Barbers in March of 1990 and fell in love with the quaint village of Steveston – a sharp contrast to busy London. When previous owner Randy Hendricks moved to Kamloops in June of 1993, Iain bought the business. His son Julian was born that same month and daughter Natalie followed in 1995.

Iain enjoys living in Canada, especially Steveston, and can’t imagine being anywhere else “I feel so fortunate to call this place home”. He is passionate about his shop, his craft and his customers, “I have a great job. I love the constant change in trends, and as a shop we adapt well to the ebb and flow of fashion. We take a lot of pride in our work.” Iain is well known as an all rounder, never shying away from a challenge, professionally or personally.

Steveston Barbers has been voted “Best Barbershop in Richmond” winning the Richmond News Readers Award 8 years running. Iain credits his amazing staff and loyal customers to the business’s success. “The barbershop boys have immense talent and we all get along really well – I think the customers enjoy our banter and camaraderie.” As the for the customers, Iain can’t say enough about them, “I’m a real people person, and I appreciate our wide range of customers – all ages and stages of life and from all walks of life. I learn so much from them and get such a wide perspective listening to their stories. I love my job and the customers make it fresh and exciting everyday – even after 25 years.”
